WINTERFALL is a premier social event primed for the launch of the holiday season in Tallahassee. Led by a team of community volunteers, funds raised through WINTERFALL directly benefit individuals served by the African-American Alzheimer’s Caregiver and Support 2 (ACTS 2) Project – an initiative of the Florida State University Foundation* and The Florida State University College of Medicine – across the Big Bend Region.
Held in the beautiful gardens at Esposito’s, this winter wonderland setting features our Capital City’s best food & wine, entertainment by Tobacco Rd Band, a live auction and much more! The holiday season and its offerings will bring the sights, sounds & smells that evoke memories of family, fun and the traditions we all love this time of year. You will not want to miss this festive affair!
Alzheimer’s disease is a rapidly growing national health problem. Nearly 6 million adults in the U.S. currently are living with the condition. This figure is expected to triple by 2050. African Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia than the majority population. Their family caregivers spend significantly more time in direct care with their loved ones and perform the most demanding caregiving tasks of any dementia caregiver group. As a result, African-American dementia caregivers are at substantial risk for declines in emotional and physical health.
Through financial support of the ACTS 2 Project, you truly make a difference in helping to meet the needs of distressed family caregivers of adults with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and provide the funds needed to train more faith community workers to deliver the program.
